several years ago, i tried to throw vince a surprise party for his birthday... and, well... let's just say it was a major fail. like, he knew several days in advance fail. that night, after the party i vowed to him i'd never try to throw another surprise party for him again.
this year vince and i both turn 30, and while we don't have any problem with getting older, 30 is just a weird one for us. we aren't really where we thought we'd be at this age and it has been kind of tough. at the beginning of the year i got the crazy idea to try and throw him a surprise party again! i wanted to do something nice for him, make it a memorable birthday, a happy birthday.
so i started planning. vince is a tricky guy to surprise, so i was having a hard time figuring out the logistics of it all. i just couldn't come up with a way to lure him to where the surprise would be without suspicions. nothing was coming together. finally in may, i decided to keep it really low key and to do it several weeks prior to his actual birthday -- then he'd never see it coming!
after i decided that, things kind of just fell in to place. vince had a big test in one of his classes the day i planned to have the party -- so i told him i was taking him out that night on a "secret date night", which is something i've done before for him. basically, he just doesn't get to know the dates activities until we are out doing them. i usually do "secret date night" for him on days he has a big project due or a test -- its a way of celebrating that it is over! annnyway. so that's what i told him. secret date night! yay!
we held the party at the pizza pie cafe in bountiful, and lots of his family and friends were able to come and surprise him! vince only started to get suspicious once we got to the restaurant because i guess that was when i started to lose my cool haha! you pay when you first get there (because its an all you can eat pizza place) and it was a friday night so it was packed and they were seating people instead of just being able to pick which table you want... so after we paid, they tried to seat us but i told them we already had a seat -- which vince thought was strange. then, we were getting our drinks and vince could see the balloons and everything out in the spot where all our family and friends were -- but luckily he couldn't see them or the surprise would have been for sure ruined! luckily, he still was so genuinely surprised once we walked to our table! it was awesome and i can't believe i was actually able to pull it off!!
