January: wrap up

last year, i attempted project life and failed. i just couldn't keep up and even though it is designed to be a no-fuss way to scrapbook -- it still stressed me out (darn that perfectionist in me) and would take way too long to do one or two pages. if you know me really even just a little bit -- you know i'm obsessed with recording and documenting my life, so i wanted to do something to document each week and month and all the big and little things we do. i try to blog regularly -- at least once a week -- but i definitely don't blog everything that happens. so, i decided i would do a monthly wrap up here on the blog! (i got the formatting idea from emily kate.)

watched
-the secret life of walter mitty (twice, it was that good). this movie will easily be one of our favorites for the entire year, i'm sure. it touches a place in the hearts of all of us who dream of adventures -- and made vince and i really want to travel more!

-saving mr. banks (good, but it felt kind of long)

-parenthood (seasons 1-4). i started this show on a whim and i LOVE it. i pretty much devoured seasons 1-4. i still need to watch season 5 (current season) but i don't want to have to pay (i watch it on amazon prime) to watch the episodes so i might just wait to watch it once the season is over and when it is free.

-downton abbey season 4 (but didn't love it as much as past seasons)

listened
-nothing new that i can think of ... just listened to my fav pandora station a lot: mumford & sons

fun things w/family & friends
-went and saw our friend ryan perform with the Utah Voices choir. it really made me want to join because i miss singing a lot. it used to be such a huge part of my life in high school and at the U but in the last few years it has become non-existent basically. unfortunately this choir meets on wednesday nights and that is when mutual is! next year, maybe!

-went to a utes basketball game with vince's family (they lost... bummer!)

-we went to two different jazz basketball games this month! one was with tickets i got for free from my work, and the other was for the jerry sloan banner night (see post about that here).

-we hit up a university of utah red rocks (gymnastics) meet with the oveson's also. they won (because they are freakin' good!) and it was a lot of fun!

-went on a thrift shopping trip with two of my sisters and had a blast. we stuffed the shopping cart about as full as it could go and then timed ourselves to see how fast we could try them all on! it was super fun!

milestones, holidays, & special occasions
-celebrated New Years with vince's family at his parents house. we got pizza factory for dinner and played games and ate treats!

progress on goals
-vince and i both purchased new running shoes! this will help with the running goals we have for the year!

the good, the bad, the unusual
-we made the final decision to get rid of our cable tv. it was something we had been toying with for over a year. the thing that always stood in the way? sports! anything else we want to watch (tv shows) we can watch via other means. but not sports, and that was always a huge dealbreaker for vince. but, with each semester that comes his way he gets more and more busy with school and has less time to watch stuff. and since he will be graduating in a little over a year from now, we decided it would be a good thing for many reasons. for one, it wouldn't be a distraction for him while he needs to do homework or study. but also, for both of us -- we wont just waste all our free time sitting in front of the tv. we decided to wait until the olympics were over (so we could watch events that were on other stations, not just the regular non-cable station). so it should be happening soon!

-we purchased a new (to us) car to replace our cr-v that had died in november. vince's parents had been nice enough to lend us a car while we were looking for a replacement, which we really appreciated. luckily, they had an extra vehicle that they had bought a few months prior so they weren't out a vehicle either while we used theirs. super fortunate, as i don't know what we would have done otherwise.

-scout got to have her very own "puppy spa day" where we took her to get bathed and groomed. she seemed to have a great time and looked so pretty (as always) after! we sure love our girl!

the everyday & routine
-vince started a new semester and it has been a doozy of one so far. he has been the busiest i have ever seen him and he hardly sleeps (poor guy!). he is still loving his major and really excels at it too.

-i started drinking lemon water this month because i had heard there were several benefits in doing so. i'm hooked!

-spent each wednesday evening of the month with the young woman of our ward at mutual (always a fun time!). i am really enjoying this calling, it has been really great so far!

I LOVE all the pics. I definitely get what you mean about the perfectionist in you. I'd be the same way. Aaaand now I need to watch Walter Mitty.

At my school, all the Language Arts teach the short story "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and have the students write their own "Secret Life" stories. It's my favorite assignment all year.

I still need to check out that movie---glad to hear that it's good!
